“I’m a martial artist. I don’t train for a fight. I train for myself. I’m training all the time. My goal is perfection. But I will never reach perfection.”

My name is Arnold de wet
I have been a die hard MMA fan since 2009. Since attending the very first EFC I could see the market for this sport would be massive, bringing fans from across the entire country and all classes together as one. Because sport is such a cultural driver I would be pleased to see Mixed Martial Arts get the same patriotic support as its other counterparts such as Rugby and Cricket enjoy. Besides having much love for the sport of MMA, I am also a person who is passionate about my community and would love to make the sport of MMA accessible to individuals from all walks of life.
“A boxer is like a lion, the greatest predator on land. But you throw him in the shark tank and he’s just another meal.”
Renzo Gracie
Although Mixed Martial Arts has grown leaps and bounds over the past 13 years, we still see a lot of people mistaking it for boxing or wrestling. There is a super keen interest to learn more about this adrenaline-fuelled sport and showcase it throughout the rest of South Africa. My goal is to be the number 1 referred to the website when wanting to know more about specialized events and turn the athletes into household names. Too many people do not currently know who our top stars are and we will not rest until everyone knows who we are.

When did you get into mma
I got into the sport of MMA in 2009. For the past 13 years, I have always been intrigued by the evolution of the sport and how it has turned into one of the biggest must-watch sporting events on the planet. I keep my finger on the pulse of the sport and I sincerely hope I can build a strong MMA community from within South Africa.
Have you ever been a mma athlete?
I have trained in Mixed Martial Arts as well as the sport of boxing for a combined of years but never pursued it professionally as life had other plans for me. It is my love for the sport and competition which ensures that we can discuss MMA events with much gusto.
How do you know so much about mma?
By not just being a fan, but also taking an interest in the athletes. How they go about their lives with their day-to-day activities and what it takes to become a contender in the EFC. I Was taken aback by seeing all the work that goes into a solid production and how hard everyone involved works to deliver hard-hitting action to the fans.
How much money have you won through betting on fights?
My punting record is sitting at a combined total of 78-6 for the year 2022 and I have accumulated a total sum of just over R72k in winnings over the last financial year.
Why mma and not boxing?
fell in love with the sport of boxing at first but was eventually won over by MMA as the different fighting styles provide a unique element to each match and deliver unrivaled action. There is almost never a dull moment and the news cycle on MMA is never-ending.
Who do you look up to in the sport?
Some of my influences in the sport without a doubt would be Conor Mcgregor for his business sense and secondly Dana White for being a pioneer in the sport and bringing it to the mainstream. Locally I am very good friends with Igeu Kabesa so I might be biased, but he is an amazingly humble and hard-working guy.
